Holy SH_ T What A Life and Recovery Miracle!And I can say this because I am also in recovery from addiction. And just when you think you have read or heard in a meeting the most devastating story? "A man in recovery" comes along and shares his testimony that gives all who read this book a clear picture of how addiction will destroy you and the best of everything you have built and worked hard for and drain you to the edge death and darkness as Tim eloquently written.I laughed, shed some tears, and his story made me "feel." Made me look back to my worst days of addiction. When written words make you feel what the author is sharing, then he did his job as a writer. The book is well laid out, exceptionally written and edited. Tim is very adamant about NEVER giving up or give in as your "Miracle" is coming and freedom from bondage in recovery.He shares very real, raw, and bares his soul and indiscretions with an "in your face attitude" as he should as he is talking life or death option when it comes to any addiction, including his own. But? Second chances are allowed! Sometimes having to be tough is a good thing to reclaim one's life back. I commend him for sharing his life and his recovery and what it took for him to be another life saved. God performs Miracles. Like Tim, we just need to listen and see them all around us. I began to read and figured I would finish it in a week at my leisure. I finished it non-stop! Tim tells it like it is from an addict's perspective, which is something most of us cannot relate to? Writing part of this book had to be painful in the fact that Tim had to relive difficult times in his life - but also had to be therapeutic in some way. As you will see Tim lost a son to the same addiction. Again something most of us absolutely cannot relate to?! In my opinion it is to some extent giving back and Tim is now able to pay it forward by what he does on a daily basis. And that is helping others in this sad and all too often common world of addiction that we read, hear and see about on a daily basis. This is an amazing story, he is an amazing man, and you will not be disappointed you bought this book!

Tim has done what God wants for all of us -- he has taken what he's been given, overcome it and is now telling others how he did it. Tim is tireless in his desire to help others and I really admire him.

Tim Ryan leaves nothing to your imagination in this journey of his life down the road of addiction. If you didn't know what it's like to be an addict, you will thru Tim ' s truthful story. But, have tissues handy, I cried thru every chapter. He's now in recovery and he let's us know why recovery and your higher powered is a road he will walk the rest of his life. 5 stars are not enough, nor would 500 be. A must read for families together.Tim Ryan has saved so many from the hell of heroin, but he's lost many and this is what fuels him. Watching a loved one detox from heroin is painful. Fighting for their rights in early detox is excruciating. There's not enuf thank yous for you Tim, nor blessings. Peace...

This is the least interesting book on addiction I've read in a long time.I'm sure there is a story but it's not in the book, even though the author overdosed and died multiple times - stories that are not in the book. What's in the book is the sucess story of water skiing and making a lot of money on multiple businesses, going to jail, getting clean and preaching god. Not worth the money!

I just finished reading this book. Wow! It is very well written and it really helped me understand the mindset of addict. Every chapter is very emotional. I believe this book will be a very helpful resource and tool for addicts in active addiction, people in recovery and anyone who has a family member or friend in addiction. I have read this book three times and am still enthralled. This is a must read from a man who doesn't sugar coat a thing. It should be a mandatory read for every high school student!!! In The Medium of Contingency Elie Ayache builds upon his ground-breaking book The Blank Swan, in exploring the intersection of philosophy and finance, introducing new notions of price and market. Inverting the received view, he now sees a creation of matter in both the market and its metaphysics, rather than pure speculation.

Once recognized as the proper medium of contingency and disassociated from the probabilistic and statistical tools traditionally used to model it, the market can be thought as 'real', in a new sense of reality corresponding to the new sense of matter. To bring this new and original perspective, The Medium of Contingency builds on probability theory as first formalized by von Mises and Kolmogorov, and later revisited by Shafer and Vovk. It utilises the author's extensive experience in derivatives pricing technology and software, as well as his work in the philosophy of contingency and contingent claims, to propose a new philosophical interpretation of Brownian motion and of the Black-Scholes-Merton formula. Then it completes the overturning of the traditional view of the market by arguing that there should be no difference, ultimately, between an underlying asset and the derivative written on it.

This book does not aim to change the market but the way we must think of it. It is the author's conviction that there can be no philosophy of the market, and consequently no thinking of it, without a philosophy of contingent claims and of derivative pricing. About the Author
ELIE AYACHE was born in Lebanon in 1966. Trained as an engineer at l'École Polytechnique of Paris, he pursued a career of option market-maker on the floor of MATIF (1987-1990) and LIFFE (1990-1995). He then turned to the philosophy of probability (DEA at la Sorbonne) and to derivative pricing and co-founded ITO 33, a financial software company, in 1999. Today, ITO 33 is the leading specialist in the pricing of convertible bonds, in the equity-to-credit problem, and more generally, in the calibration and recalibration of volatility surfaces. Elie has published many articles on the philosophy of contingent claims, as well as The Blank Swan: The End of Probability.
