Bought brand new, came brand new. Although it is a little too dumbed down for myself and i was hoping for more reference to actualy electrical problems / diagnosis, it still covers voltage drop pretty decent. Less about Ignition & more about troubleshooting scenarios & diagnostic procedures. The cartoonish drawing examples were a little much for me, showing a wiring diagram or actual component with the leads hooked up would've been better, but all in all, still a great book for the price. Beginners will soak this up, intermediate to advanced will not be able to get past the 10th page without a slight giggle. (but im not knocking it). Pleased in the end.

This is an excellent book that is ideal for someone new to automotive electrical/electronic systems and even someone like myself who has worked on cars for decades but can use a good review of these systems. The pictures and illustrations are so clear and colorful that they are almost stunning when you open the book. In fact, they are the best photographs and illustrations that I have ever seen in a book of this type. They are large and beautifully clear and the pages are of very high-quality glossy and thick paper.I was a bit surprised by the amount of information about old electrical systems with distributors, points, generators, regulators, etc. But that's OK and someone working on a older car may find it to be a plus. However, many people may have little or no interest in the older systems and a unusally large percentage of the book is devoted to long obsolete systems. I would suspect that most people would prefer that the book emphasized modern electronics more. Don't get me wrong: The book does cover modern systems but I would say at least about 1/2 of it is about old systems. Also, know that this does not cover OBD systems at all but I'm actually glad that it doesn't because that's a subject in itself. (I bought the two most popular books listed on Amazon about OBD systems on Amazon and I found the Haynes book to be, by far, the better of the two. I have written a review of both of them. The Haynes book would be a perfect companion to this book.)One funny thing that I noticed is that, in numerous pictures in the book, the author is shown using a DMM set to read AC voltage when he is reading a DC circuit. In fact, I don't know how he even got a reading on his meter as shown in the pictures. It's a small thing but it's funny that the author didn't catch that.This book will be an excellent resource for me and I think others will find it valuable too. It's well worth the money.

I have Tracy's Motorcycle Electrical Systems and I just had to have this one to go with it. He has a fine knowledge of diagnosis and a talent for putting it in layman's terms.

Other than that I cant add much to this review.For anyone interested in what I had to say about it .Read my review on Automotive electrical performance projects book.By Tony Canadela What I will say about this book.I feel more will get whats needed from this book than most auto electrical books out there.As long as you already have a desent working knowledge on auto electrical.He goes into a lot more useful ways of going about figuring and repairing auto electrical problems.Which are what most really have overall.This book would also better give anyone a idea about rewiring I feel than the other book.When anyone who plans to rewire a entire auto wont be needing that other at all.Hope this helps

In process of reading and so far I'm satisfied. This is a good book for the beginner. In fact, after reading some of the book I have enrolled in the local college and taking automotive wiring.

Mostly common sense stuff on mostly obsolete components.

I rattle my tongue for Tracy Martin & this book. It doesn't talk down to the reader, nor does it assume we know anything (or worse, everything). It's written so we can skim through what we know, get on to what we need to learn, & not miss anything important. It's thorough, too.I have been a ham radio operator for decades. Been mechanicking for more decades (since I was 13, when my uncles insisted I learn or go stay with 'the women' - what a no-brainer! Learn interesting stuff or not!) BUT.... I've always had a problem fixing automative electrical glitches. Just could not figure out how to isolate the problem area so I could fix it. This required waiting on some man to get a round tuit. An exercise in patience & frustration! Not for this grandma to do.Enter this book. I've had a problem with the right rear light on an 83 Chevy pickup for awhile. Bad ground/socket/broken wire? Couldn't fix it.. Until now. I was up to running new wire from one end of the pickup to the other. With this book, I found the problem & fixed the darned thing. Then to attack the gauges. I put in a set that worked fine in an 81 Chevy.. but wouldn't work here. Bad fuse? No. Then what? Now I know. As soon as the temperature in the great open-air garage rises to 'tolerable', I'll fix them. Look out world, here I come! With working tail lights & gauges. Waaay cool! Wopila tanka, Tracy / Strong thanks, Tracy!

It does not invent its own terminology or pattern numbering system, a problem that has lessened the value of many books like this in the past. The CAGED-based fretboard system used has world-wide recognition and a long historic basis, refined and tweaked in Musicians Institute curricula since 1977 by hundreds of instructors after its introduction by Howard Roberts in the early 1970s. You'll cover everything you need for a rock-solid foundation, including modes and slash chords. You'll understand and play (anywhere on the neck!) any scale or chord you encounter or imagine. Besides offering you a chance to completely grasp the guitar, this method assures you will be able to communicate with other trained musicians no matter what their instrument. The book was designed for use in three arenas: private lessons, classroom instruction, and personal study by the motivated individual. There are 22 short chapters of very gradually increasing difficulty, suitable for teaching in 20-30 minute time frames. Each chapter has modest written and playing assignments, with all the answers in the back of the book. The subtitle for this book is "A complete system for understanding the fretboard".This book is focused on understanding the fretboard and excels at making the reader understand getting intimate with the fretboard.I like that this book doesn't pretend to be anything it is not; no promises of cool licks, hot riffs, blazing shredding etc.The book deals with THEORY and does a pretty good job of explaining it well. Like all good instructional treatises, this isn't a book you read in a day or even week or even a month. You use it, bit by bit, come back to old bits again, read new material, go back to old material etc.It's a book you keep handy on your bookshelf, a ready friend when you need one.It's a bit dry, though, be warned. It's not a dummy's guide and doesn't treat you like an idiot. It'll teach you all you need to know how to play lead and rhythm without actually teaching you and licks or riffs. How about that?Overall, it's a good book that I'll be happy to recommend to anyone who wants to understand the guitar fretboard.

I've not yet this book for a year yet and it's literally reinventing me as a guitar player. I don't get nearly the time I'd like to practice/play so I need to make the most of it. I was initially self-taught and then did a private lessons for a few years prior to quitting due to health reasons. A few decades later the itch came back with a furry and I was determined not to squander it. I bought this book based on recommendations and am so glad I found it.The approach of this book assumes you're coming from nothing but motivation and the end looks darn scary to the likes of me, but I've seen nothing but steady forward progress that builds incrementally so that no step forward is too high to reach. The author has done an impeccable job of breaking down a complex subject and made it possible for anyone to learn. Some (most?) of music theory is so old that it often seems arcane and unnecessarily complex (or even wrong from a mathematical PoV). Yet it works and has stood the test of time... a LOT of time, so why fight it? I'm glad to finally be on the road that eliminates all the mystery. I can't imagine a learning approach any more straightforward that what's presented here. It's easy to understand and to skip parts that you might already know.

This is a very thorough book and with some of the best explanations and exercises I have encountered. The guitar itself requires time and effort to play it well. A student needs to know the laytout of the instrument, where the notes are and how they relate to each other. Then they can make sense of their warm-up exercises and scales. Soon chords and melody are not as daunting as they were when the student didn’t know where to go on the fretboard. The fretboard is a lot harder to understand than the piano, for example! I appreciate the 5-pattern approach to explanation over the CAGED method. Too many teachers start students with a song or a chord by saying put your index finger on the second string at the first fret, etc., instead of teaching the notes right away so he/she can say, “put your finger on C on the second string...or on the 5th string, or the 1st string, or 6th string, or the 3rd string...”. Get my drift? The Guitar Fretboard Workbook is not teaching technique but it will accelerate playing progress through thorough understanding of the guitar. Bravo for a book well structured!

I love this book! I have been playing the guitar for 37 years and never seen a book quite like this one. I have used Mel Bays 1-8 series, Frederick Noad, Hal Leonard, Leavitt Berkeley 1-3, Segovia and many other compilations. This book stands alone as a must have for any guitar player desiring to excel on the fretboard, play lead, tacets, licks, etc. Scales over chords is the basic theme here and the book teaches several methods for viewing the fretboard in different manners not taught by any other method I have seen. The author has you visualize the notes on the fretboard by drawing out relationships such as the 5 shapes method, the half-steps method (E-F & B-C) to name a couple. This is a must have for any serious guitarist!

I'm about 60% through the book and, so far, I think it is great. I think that focusing on the root shapes rather than chord shapes (CAGED system) is a better approach. Once you recognize the major scale patterns and know the root shapes, you can play any scale, anywhere on the fretboard. Pentatonic and minor scales can then be easily derived from within the major scale patterns. The exercises help to instill a solid understanding of the concepts. If you want to understand your guitar better and play up the neck, this is the book for you.

This book is absolutely what I've been looking for. I'm a conceptual guy, and I like explanations, not just instructions. The author says that he figured out that his students who learn the skills in this book do well. By going through the book and taking time on each topic, I feel I'm coming to understand the guitar. Hopefully this will let me feel comfortable and confident and be creative. I'm a beginner, and this is at the right level for me.

OMG I am currently on Chapter 7, and cannot help writing a good review on this book already. After so many guitar classes and $$ wasted and still don't have a complete understanding of the fretboard, this book really helps me understand all the bits of guitar fretboard theory in a systematic way. I am so thankful for the author to write up this book, it has helped me so much and I truly enjoy the `WOAH` moment in every single chapter, it's enlighning and now I have a much clearer goal what I should be working on to improve my understanding on all the notes on the fretboard.

Maybe it's me, but I didn't get as much out of this book as I expected. I think I read the first 3 chapters and found some helpful information there, but after that the book quickly launched into gaming aspects and I quit reading. Given the content of the book it should have been titled 'Canvas Gaming' or something like that. It's fine that the book is about gaming, but it was so much about gaming it didn't delve into a lot of the aspects about canvas. For example, aspects like mouse coordinates and canvas position, like relative, absolute, static, etc. I had to look aspects like that, and more, on the internet. I expected those aspects to be covered in the book. The book covered canvas basics, then quickly progressed to complex canvas aspects. It went from foundational things straight into gaming. I hoped it would have contained all the intermediate aspects too. Not everyone wants to develop a game. I don't. I need to develop a canvas for the development of image maps and signature capture. Knowing what I now know about the book I would not have purchased it. I don't think I should buy a book on canvas and then need to search the internet for answers to a bunch of canvas aspects not covered. I wanted a book to avoid that. Looking some uncommon aspects up is expected, but not the majority of those I need. And, maybe some of the aspects I need are HTML5 aspects, but they directly affect the use of canvas and need to be coded up to us canvas correctly and fully, so I expect them to be covered. Again, maybe it's just me, but that's my opinion. So, I gave the book 3 stars for - It's Okay.

The authors of this book have that passion and it shows through tons of information and numerous practical code examples. If you have a basic background in programming and game logic, this book will help you create fun graphics-centric games for the web. Over 700 pages of coding goodness.

Do not rent this as an eTextbook! It wouldn't allow me to read the textbook using my computer, and when I tried to use the Kindle app on my android phone, I found that it doesn't read like a kindle book. It basically shows a screenshot of each page as the pages of the book, so you have to take the time to zoom in and scroll perfectly down each line to read it--very time-consuming and frustrating! There are much better ebook versions out there, choose one of those or a hard copy. Luckily Amazon's support team responded very quickly and offered me a refund for the textbook order so that I could get a hard copy instead.

I thought this book was a really boring read. I understand that college is STEREO-TYPICALLY supposed to be somewhat dry and dull, and the book fits right into that CATEGORY. I still can not get past the irony of reading a book, that is supposed to teach me how to ANALYZE whom I COMMUNICATE with and then present information in a way that the other RECEIVES it. Yet, the book can not do it either. (key-words capitalized)But seriously, I read the entire book and did very well in my COM 100 class. However, I dreaded reading this book every day. I think it could be condensed to a much smaller and much more interesting version. The other problem I had with the book was it's definitions of key terms. Many times I would have to look them up online to make sense of them. I would also organize the book differently. For example, every time it mentions a theory, I would create a text box on the page, that gave a profile of that theory.I must admit, I did learn a few things reading this book, but the amount of pages that I read while learning nothing new was immense.

My time with this book was measured not by time but instead by the number of dents in my desk from my head. I found that repeated head trauma transformed the book from the most boring thing imaginable to a thought provoking, interesting read. Head trauma is simply a must. If you find yourself dreading your time with this book, don’t. Aside from the occasional nose bleed, this is truly life changing.

Textbook bent a little. The price is outrageous considering it's a flimsy paperback. I bought the softcover as it was only $20 more than the loose leaf edition. That's right an unbound book sells for over $100! The authors have done a great job explaining the subject.

In all fairness, I’m only 5 chapters in. I’ve given up on really taking my time to read the book because everything presented thus far is pretty common knowledge. That said, the information that is presented is easy to understand - my 6th header could read it with no trouble. The thing that really bothers me is the vast amount of typos and missing words. It breaks my focus every time I come across one. I can’t believe they published it like this...
